Stages and timeline

The timeline for developing the Vision:

Stage 1: Gathering Information (February 2022)

A baseline report including a detailed review of work to date, current and future planning policy positions, socio-economic assessment and a place-based analysis of Newbury and Thatcham.

You can read our two baseline reports here.

Stage 2: Widespread Consultation
(April 2022)

Consultation to discover what residents, business and visitors see as the district’s strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities.

A Consultation Report will be developed, drawing upon ideas of how Newbury and Thatcham should evolve in the years ahead, in light of what residents, businesses and other stakeholders have suggested.

Stage 3: Draft 2050 Vision for West Berkshire
(
early Summer 2022)

A draft Vision will be created, setting out aspirations and objectives for the district, including environmental, housing, economic, cultural and design considerations.

The Vision will provide a clear spatial steer to where growth in Newbury and Thatcham should occur in the period up to 2050 to address the challenges and opportunities associated with long-term sustainable growth.

Stage 4: Final 2050 Vision for West Berkshire
(
early Summer 2022)

Once approved, the Council will submit the Vision along with the Local Plan Review to a Planning Inspector for an Independent Examination.
